HOUSING AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

University Housing offers residential living to more than 3000 students, faculty and staff of San Francisco State University. Living on the campus community is the best way to experience the attributes that make SF State one of California's preeminent public, urban universities: respect for scholarship, human diversity, and cultural richness.

First Year Students under age 20

Mary Ward and Mary Park Halls are an ideal introduction to university life for first-year freshman. All rooms are furnished, double occupancy, with two community bathrooms per floor. Each resident receives cable TV hookup, telephone with voice mail, and Internet connections. On-site laundry and vending machines are available in both buildings. A choice of 10, 15 or 19 meals a week plan is included in the fees.

The Science and Technology Theme Community (STTC) is open to first-year freshmen. Residents are accommodated in double-occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. The STTC is designed to make the transition to college life easier by providing a “small college experience” to 100 SF State students who intend to major in the fields of science and technology. Enhanced amenities are available to STTC residents such as on-site computer laboratory and classroom space, and access to science and engineering faculty outside the classroom. As in other residence halls, a choice of 10, 15 or 19 meals a week plan is included in the fees.

The Towers at Centennial Square (TCS) apartments, located across from the residence halls, offer shared 1 and 2-bedroom apartments to first year freshman, who wish to live in designated Residential Learning and Theme Communities. The Residential Learning and Theme Communities bring together first-year students who have similar goals and academic interests. All apartments are fully furnished, and include equipped kitchenettes, bathrooms, internet access and cable TV hookup. A choice of 10, 15 or 19 meals a week plan is included in the fees.

The Village at Centennial Square Business Community (VCS-C) is located in Building C. It offers 2 and 3-bedroom apartments to first year freshman who have a major or minor in Business or considering selecting Business as their major. Each apartment is fully furnished and includes a kitchen, 2 bathrooms, internet access and cable hookup. A choice of 10, 15 or 19 meals a week plan is included in the fees.

Second Year and Transfer Students under age 22

The Village at Centennial Square building A and B (VCS-A B) offer 2 and 3-bedroom apartments to second-year and transfer students. Double or single occupancy bedrooms are available. Each apartment is fully furnished and includes a kitchen, bathroom, internet access and cable hookup. Meal plans are optional and available for 5, 8, 10, 15 or 19 meals a week.

Upper Division and Graduate Students under age 25

University Park South Apartments (UPS), located a block away from the center of campus, are in the heart of beautiful Lake Merced neighborhood, a walk away from the lake and adjoining golf course and a mile from the Pacific Ocean. These are furnished 2 bedrooms/1 bath or 3 bedrooms/2 baths garden apartments with spacious living and dining rooms, some with semi private patios. Single and double occupancy bedrooms are available in each apartment to SF State students age 22 to 25. Fees are for a bed space and include utilities (gas, electric, water, garbage), internet access and cable TV. Meal plans are available to UPS residents but not required.

Eligibility and Application Process

All SF State students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of 12 units for undergraduates or 9 units for graduate students are eligible to live in the SF State University Housing Community.

The housing application process is separate from the university's admission process and applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. San Francisco State does not guarantee housing to newly admitted students and does not give preference based on class level. Due to high demand for housing spaces in San Francisco, the residence community fills quickly. We strongly advise students to request a housing application before being admitted to the university.

Applications are available on-line at www.sfsu.edu/~housing/.

Faculty, Staff and Student Housing at University Park North Apartments

Situated on 24 beautiful acres adjacent to the Stonestown Galleria Shopping Center , University Park North provides unfurnished apartments to SF State faculty, staff, and students of all ages. The property boasts spectacular views of Lake Merced and the Pacific Ocean, and is only steps away from San Francisco State University main campus.

Applications for University Park North Apartments are available by contacting the University Park Rental Office located at 21 Buckingham Way, San Francisco, CA 94132. Telephone 415- 564-4000 or e-mail univpark@sfsu.edu.

Residential Dining Services

The SFSU dining program is one of the best reasons to become a member of the on-campus community. The main dining room, City Eats, offers delicious menu selections within the Profiles in Good Taste marketplace. A variety of cook-to-order stations cater to students' taste for fresh and nutritious selections, including grilled entrees at the Fresh Grille, vegetarian dishes at Origins, and delicatessen items at Sandwich Central. The Café in the Park offers à la carte gourmet sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, and specialty coffees.

Off-Campus Housing Resource

The university off-campus housing web site offers extensive links to rental and roommate listings, descriptions of neighborhoods, contact information for apartment complexes, home-stay opportunities, and housing information for people with disabilities. Students, staff, and faculty members can post and retrieve information at: www.sfsu.edu/~housing/offcampus/index.html.
