Using
the Class Schedule to Make your Registration Schedule
|
|
Notice the parts of a Class Schedule page:
- The Title and Number of the course. In this case SPCH -150 Fundamentals of Oral Communication
- The Section number: how many different offerings of SPCH 150 there are.
- The
Schedule
number:
this is very important for registration. A different Schedule
Number is assigned for each class. This 5-digit number is what
you will use to add a class.
- The number of units a class is. A unit measures how many hours a week you are in
class. So a 3-unit class is a typical one - it meets 3 hours a
week- either MWF for an hour each day, TTH for 1 and 1/2 hours
each day, and even one day a week for 3 hours!
- LEC
means it's a Lecture class. This is typical. But there are other
kinds of classes we have at SFSU such as ACT or LAB (an activity
or lab).
- Time the class meets. Notice this is written in Military time or a
24 hour clock. So 1 pm is written 1300, 2 pm is written 1400 and
so forth.
- Days
of the week
a class meets. You can even find in addition to the M, T, W, TH,
F classes a Saturday class here too.
- Room
number and building
where the class meets. If nothing is written there, either you'll
find out when you get mailed a final class schedule or the class
may be located off campus or in a special location. Remember,
we will be giving you a virtual tour at the end of this Virtual
Orientationand you don't want to get lost, but plan on doing a
live tour when you come to campus!
- Check
to see in the far left hand column of the page if there are any
Footnotes
about
the class. Transfers! Footnotes are especially important for you
to watch. They may indicate pre-requistes or location of an off
campus class.
- Finally, you'll see the Instructor's name. Sometimes it is blank. They will have an instructor assigned
by the time classes start!
