HOUSING AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

At San Francisco State University, the residence community provides a "home away from home" for about 1,500 students. Campus living places students in the heart of a close-knit community where they can become actively involved in university life. Students can participate in educational and cultural programs, explore new experiences, and make new friends—without the hassle of commuting. Living on campus is the best way to experience the respect for scholarship, human diversity, and cultural richness that makes SFSU one of California's preeminent public, urban universities.

San Francisco State University offers two traditional residence halls, Mary Ward and Mary Park Halls for first and second year students. Upper division students have the opportunity to apply to live in the new Village at Centennial Square Apartments.

Residence Halls

SFSU's two traditional residence halls, Mary Ward and Mary Park Halls, offer an ideal introduction to university life. All rooms are double occupancy and furnished with two community bathrooms per floor. Residents are encouraged to run for floor representative positions and to join hall government organizations. Student leadership opportunities are abundant through both paid student staff and volunteer positions. Life in the residence halls offers a variety of excellent programs and services which include:

The Village at Centennial Square

Located at the heart of San Francisco State University, The Village offers housing to more than 700 students. To be eligible, full-time SFSU students must have reached a minimum of junior status or be 20 years of age or older. SFSU students now have the opportunity to experience the conveniences and comforts of off-site campus in brand new apartments with single and double occupancy accommodations. A limited number of apartments are designed to accommodate students with disabilities. All apartments are fully furnished with all utilities included in addition to free cable and Internet access. The Village provides a unique balance of amenities and services to provide an unequaled package. Not only is it an aesthetically pleasing and practical facility, but also a place to proudly call home. For more information, go to www.centennialvillage.com.

Residential Dining Services

The SFSU dining program is one of the best reasons to become a member of the on-campus community. The main dining room, City Eats, offers delicious menu selections within the "Profiles in Good Taste" marketplace. A variety of cook-to-order stations cater to students' taste for fresh and nutritious selections, including grilled entrees at the Fresh Grille, vegetarian dishes at Origins, and delicatessen items at Sandwich Central. The Café in the Park offers à la carte gourmet sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, and specialty coffees. Residents may choose a 19-, 15-, or 10-meals-a-week plan.

Eligibility and Application Process

All freshmen and sophomore students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of twelve units are eligible to live in the Residence Halls. All upper division students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of twelve units are eligible to live in the Village at Centennial Square.

The housing application process is separate from the university's admission process and applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. San Francisco State does not guarantee housing to newly admitted students and does not give preference based on class level.

Due to high demand for housing spaces in San Francisco, the residence community fills quickly. Students are strongly advised to request a housing application before being admitted to the university.

Freshmen or sophomore students are encouraged to request an application packet for the Residence Halls by contacting Housing and Residential Services, Mary Ward Hall, 800 Font Boulevard, San Francisco, CA 94132; (415) 338-1067; e-mail: housing@sfsu.edu; or go to www.sfsu.edu/~housing/.
