HOUSING AND RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

SFSU Housing and Residential Services offers residential living to more than 2,200 students of all ages and class levels. Living on campus is the best way to experience the attributes that make SFSU one of California's preeminent public, urban universities: respect for scholarship, human diversity, and cultural richness. Residents are encouraged to join hall government organizations or the Judicial Review Board. Student leadership opportunities are abundant through both paid student staff and volunteer positions .

First Year Students

Mary Ward and Mary Park Halls are an ideal introduction to university life for first-year freshman students under the age of 20. All rooms are furnished, double occupancy, with two community bathrooms per floor. Each resident receives cable TV hookup, telephone with voice mail, and high speed Internet connections. On-site laundry and vending machines are available in both buildings. A choice of meal plans with 10, 15, or 19 meals a week is included in the fees.

The Science and Technology Theme Community (STTC) is open to first-year freshmen students under the age of nineteen. Residents are accommodated in renovated double-occupancy rooms with private bathrooms. The STTC is designed to make the transition to college life easier by providing a “small college experience” for 100 SFSU students who intend to major in the fields of science and technology . Enhanced amenities are available to STTC residents such as Broadband Ethernet connections, on-site computer laboratory and classroom space, live-in resident assistants, and access to science and engineering faculty outside the classroom. As in other residence halls, students can chose a meal plan providing 10, 15, or 19 meals per week.

The Towers at Centennial Square (TCS) apartments, located across from the residence halls, offer shared one and two bedroom apartments to first year freshman students in designated Residential Learning Communities. Residents of the Towers at Centennial Square love having their own kitchens and bathrooms. All apartments are fully furnished, and include equipped kitchenettes, high speed internet access and cable TV hookup. A choice of three meal plans is included.

The Residential Learning Communities at the Towers bring together first year students who have similar goals and academic interests.

As in the residence halls, TCS students can choose a meal plan providing 10, 15, or 19 meals per week.

Other Freshman Residential Living Programs

Second Year and Transfer Students

The Village at Centennial Square (TCS), in close proximity to the residence halls, is a modern apartment complex that features 193 apartments accommodating second year and transfer students. A choice of two or three bedroom apartments is available and some residents enjoy the opportunity to live in single bedrooms. Each apartment is fully furnished and includes a kitchen, bathroom, and high speed internet access and cable hookup. Meal plans are optional in the Village and available for 5, 8, 10, 15 or 19 meals a week.

Upper Division and Graduate Students

University Park South Apartments, located a block away from the center of campus, are in the heart of beautiful Lake Merced neighborhood, a walk away from the lake and adjoining golf course and a mile from the Pacific Ocean. These are furnished 2 bedroom/1 bath or 3 bedroom/2 bath garden apartments with spacious living and dining rooms, some with semi private patios. Single and double occupancy bedrooms are available in each apartment. Fees are for a bed space and include utilities (gas, electric, water, garbage) and internet access. Telephone and cable are not included. Meal plans are available to University Park residents but not required.

Residential Dining Services

The SFSU dining program is one of the best reasons to become a member of the on-campus community. The main dining room, City Eats, offers delicious menu selections within the Profiles in Good Taste marketplace. A variety of cook-to-order stations cater to students' taste for fresh and nutritious selections, including grilled entrees at the Fresh Grille, vegetarian dishes at Origins, and delicatessen items at Sandwich Central. The Café in the Park offers à la carte gourmet sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, and specialty coffees.

Eligibility and Application Process

All SFSU students enrolled in an academic program at the university and carrying a minimum of twelve units for undergraduates or eight units for graduate students are eligible to live in the SFSU Housing and Residential Services Residence Community.

The housing application process is separate from the university's admission process and applications are accepted on a first-come first-served basis. San Francisco State does not guarantee housing to newly admitted students and does not give preference based on class level. Due to high demand for housing spaces in San Francisco, the residence community fills quickly. We strongly advise students to request a housing application before being admitted to the university.

Applications are available on-line at www.sfsu.edu/~housing.

Off-Campus Housing Resource

The university off-campus housing web site offers extensive links to rental and roommate listings, descriptions of neighborhoods, contact information for apartment complexes, home-stay opportunities, and housing information for people with disabilities. Students, staff, and faculty members can post and retrieve information at www.sfsu.edu/~housing/offcampus.html.
