COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES CENTER

 The Counseling and Psychological Services Center provides psychological counseling to students and consultation services to the university community. The center provides an opportunity to explore freely any personal problems or concerns. Concerns are as varied as the people themselves; they include problems involving relations with parents or peers, feelings of depression or anxiety, relationship conflict, concerns about academic progress or direction, and other issues. The professional staff of the Counseling and Psychological Services Center is comprised of licensed counselors, psychologists, and clinical social workers, representing a variety of cultures and ethnicities and trained to work with the university's multicultural student body. Counseling services are open to undergraduate and graduate students and include personal and group counseling and psychotherapy, marital and couples counseling, consultation and outreach services, and referral services for students. Consultation services are also available to staff, faculty, and the

university community on a variety of topics related to emotional wellness of students. In keeping with accepted professional practice, counseling is strictly confidential, and no information is released without the student's explicit written authorization. Counseling services are free of charge to all currently enrolled students. The center is located in Temporary Building M, between the Science Building and Hensill Hall. Appointments may be made by phone (338-2208) or in person at Temp. Bldg. M.

C.E.A.S.E. PROGRAM (Creating Empowerment through Alcohol and Substance Abuse Education)

The C.E.A.S.E. Program is a campus-wide alcohol and other drug education program, coordinated by the Counseling and Psychological Services Center, and created to educate students about alcohol and other drugs, to provide support services for all students grappling with substance problems and to provide information referrals. The C.E.A.S.E. Program sponsors workshops and seminars, participates in on-campus information fairs, and additionally, provides training to volunteers who work with other students, faculty, and staff to assist in creating a campus environment which reinforces healthy lifestyles. The C.E.A.S.E. offices and Resource Center are located in ADM 255 and can be reached at 338-1203.

COUNSELING CLINIC

The Counseling Clinic offers counseling services to students, including individual, couples, and group therapy. The interns are experienced, advanced graduate students working under the close supervision of the Counseling Department faculty. There are no fees. Interested parties may call the clinic at 338-1024 or go to BH 117.

PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC

The Psychology Clinic offers services to both students and the community-at-large. Many treatment modalities are provided, including individual, couple, child, and family therapy. The psychotherapy trainees are experienced, advanced graduate students working under the close supervision of the Clinical Psychology faculty. There are no fees. Interested parties may call the clinic at 338-2856 or go to PSY 201.

PEER COUNSELING PROGRAMS

E.R.O.S. (The Education and Referral Organization for Sexuality)

 E.R.O.S. is a student-run education and referral center established to promote positive and healthy attitudes towards sexuality and sexually related issues. E.R.O.S. services include educational programming with speakers, films, discussion groups, maintaining a lending library offering a wide selection of titles relating to issues of sexuality, keeping an up-to-date referral library, and peer counseling and referrals by trained SFSU student peer counselors. E.R.O.S. staff are available for drop-in information and referral services. E.R.O.S. is funded by Associated Students, is located in the Student Center, Mezzanine 109, and can be reached at 338-2457.

The S.A.F.E. Place

The S.A.F.E. Place (Sexual Abuse Free Environment) is the campus resource center for information, crisis counseling and referral for sexual harassment and sexual violence. S.A.F.E. provides an informal and comfortable setting for students who seek crisis intervention and support for sexual violence. The S.A.F.E. Place also assists staff, faculty, and administrators who are working with students in crisis or who themselves need such assistance.
