Career Center

The Career Center helps students and alumni in developing, evaluating, and/or implementing self-directed career, education, and employment decisions and plans.

The Career Center collaborates with employers, faculty/staff, and student organizations to assist in the search process for part-time student employment, internship/co-op programs, and full-time professional employment.

Employment Vacancy Announcements

On-campus employers post part-time student employment vacancies on the Career Center website:

  • On-campus work-study positions (for students awarded Federal Work Study only)
  • On-campus student assistant positions (non-work study)

Off-campus employers post vacancy announcements on the Career Center website:

  • Part-time jobs
  • Summer/seasonal positions
  • Internship/co-op programs
  • Full-time professional employment

Off-campus employers send job announcements daily by mail and fax, and are placed in Career Center job binders for two weeks.

Employment Recruiting

On-campus recruiting by employers:

  • On-campus Interview Program (OCI) provides students the opportunity to interview one-on-one with employers. A listing of employers conducting on-campus interviews is available on the Career Center's web page.
  • On-campus information sessions and presentations by employers are conducted to inform students about internship and employment opportunities.
  • Career expos and symposiums provide an opportunity for students to network with employers recruiting for internship programs and employment opportunities. A variety of career events are scheduled each semester. The Events Calendar on the Career Center website has the latest schedule.

Career Counseling

Career Counseling is available by appointment to currently enrolled students and recent graduates (within 6 months) to discuss career-related issues. Services include career-related self-assessments, career exploration, career planning, resumé and cover letter critiques, practice interviews, and developing self-directed job search strategies.

When classes are in session a career counselor is available to answer quick questions on a drop-in basis in the Career Center during the week days and One Stop during evening hours. See the Career Center website for updated days and times. Quick questions can also be sent by email to alegator@sfsu.edu.

Career Resources

A variety of career resources are located in the Career Center, such as career information, job search materials, videos and DVD's, books,  and directories, to assist students and alumni in developing self-directed job search strategies. A computer lab with wireless technology is also available to students to assist them with the job search.
